What is a material in tspoonlab?
Materials in hospitality businesses are the non-edible items used to apply techniques at different stages of the process. Common examples include stainless-steel trays, utensils, and vacuum bags.
How to create materials?
In this video we show you how to create and manage materials in tspoonlab, step by step. You can also follow the written step-by-step list below the video.
Step-by-step guide to create and manage a material
Access the materials tab
Go to the "Offer" tab, located in the top-left corner of the screen.
Select "Materials" to access the management of all your business's materials.
Open the material record
Find and click the three dots next to the search bar. A dropdown menu opens. Select "New material".
This opens a record ā a form where you enter all the relevant information for the material you are creating.
Complete the material record
When you create a new material, it is important to complete the necessary fields. Not all fields are mandatory, so you can fill in only those relevant to your business. The fields are:
Name (*): the main name of the material. For example, if you are registering a tray, you would write "tray" here.
Alternative name: if the material has an alternative or additional name you want to record, add it here. This field is optional.
Unit of measure (*): indicate how this material is quantified (individual units, kilos, liters...).
Conversions: if you need to convert the unit of measure to others, set those conversions here.
Family (*): select the general category the material belongs to. For example, a tray could be assigned to the "material" family.
Include in orders: checked by default, so the material is automatically included in future order lists. Uncheck it if you don't want it in orders.
Price calculation: tspoonlab offers several options ā the last purchase price, the average of previous purchases, a fixed price you set, or the price provided by suppliers. You can also enter the price manually.
VAT: if the material is taxable, set the VAT percentage here.
Store: indicate where the material will be stored, to keep accurate inventory control.
Minimum and maximum stock: optional, but useful to avoid running out or overstocking; set a minimum and maximum level to plan future purchases.
Do not include on the label: check this option if you don't want this material to appear on the label.
Barcode and product code: optional fields where you can add a barcode or a specific product code for better identification and management.
š¢ Important: Mandatory fields are marked with (*).
Once you have completed these fields, click "Ok" to save this basic information.
Edit a material
On the material's main page, you can modify several settings and details related to it ā description, suppliers, purchases, stores, images, and other relevant data. To make any change, click the three dots next to each section and select what you want to edit or add.
The options are:
Edit: modifications.
Delete: permanently removes it from the database.
Hide: not visible in the materials list but keeps the information in the database.

Move to product: move the non-edible material to product.
Move to another cost
