Create and configure sale-product groups šŸ“‚

Group your POS sales items into categories to organise stock output, control average Food Cost and automate suggested pricing in tspoonlab.

What are product groups and how do you create and manage them?

Product groups in tspoonlab let you group sales items of a similar type (such as wines, pastas or specials) to organise and analyse the stock output of your sales channels. This makes it easy to compare the performance of whole categories instead of isolated dishes, and to control the average Food Cost of each group to spot drops in profitability. It also lets you automate suggested pricing based on your costs, so your profit margin always stays under control.

Create sale-product groups

In this video we show you how to create and manage sale-product groups. Follow the step-by-step in this article to do it correctly.

Step-by-step: add and configure a sales group

Access the sales groups feature

  1. Go to the "Management" section and then click "Clients".

  2. Select your usual point of sale from the list. Within "Sale products", click the three-dot menu and select "Add group" from the dropdown.

    Select the sales group

  1. If the group you need already exists in your account, choose it from the dropdown that appears when you select "Product group".

  2. Select the product group you want and then click "Select".

  3. If you need to categorise products under a new concept, in the same dropdown select "Create new".

  4. Enter the group name, for example "Breakfast" or "Sides", and optionally an identifier code or comment. Click "OK" so the new group is saved in the system.

Configure factors and profitability

  1. Define the financial parameters that will apply to the products in this group:

    • Multiplier factor: the coefficient applied to your ingredient cost to get the suggested sale price. To work it out, divide 100 by your target Food Cost percentage (e.g. for 25% Food Cost, 100 / 25 = 4; for 30%, 100 / 30 = 3.33).

    • Delta: an additional fixed amount if you need to cover specific logistics, transport or handling costs before applying the profit margin.

    • Calculate price automatically: tick this box if you want tspoonlab to update sale prices according to the factor, automatically, based on changes in your purchase costs.

  2. Check that the profitability factors are correct for this point of sale.

  3. Click "OK" to confirm the configuration.

šŸ“Œ Note: This configuration is especially useful when designing new menus, as it instantly shows the recommended prices to be profitable.

šŸ“¢ Attention: Remember that if you enable automatic calculation, any increase in an ingredient’s purchase price could change the suggested sale price in tspoonlab.
